Bio

Sofia Mackavich is the principal at Mackavich Family Law. She focuses her practice exclusively on family law matters. She has experience with a wide array of cases, including divorce, custody and support matters, orders of protection, adoption, prenuptial agreements, and post-decree matters. Sofia emphasizes full understating of her clients’ objectives, takes her time to inform them about available options, and guides them through a decision-making process.

She utilizes all available methods, including negotiations, settlement, and litigation, to ensure a successful resolution of every case. Sofia believes that a divorce is not only an end, but also a beginning, and she focuses on preserving her clients’ financial and personal integrity to ease their transition into a new phase of their lives. Sofia takes pride making herself personally accessible to her clients because she understands that during stressful times, a timely advice can change the outcome of a case.

Sofia is passionate about helping an immigrant community, especially those from the former Soviet block. She understands that being in a foreign country can be bewildering even without attempting to navigate its legal system. She is fluent in Russian language and understands and reads Ukrainian. Sofia puts her skills to use in guiding her clients successfully through the American judicial System.

Sofia earned her Bachelor’s degree Summa Cum Laude from DePaul University and her Doctor of Law degree Cum Laude from the University of Illinois Law School, where she Represented Illinois in a National Moot Court Competition. She also earned highest honors in legal research, evidence, and appellate advocacy. Sofia combines her skills in areas of research, evidence, and litigation to ensure her clients’ success.
